A semi-truck driver was killed when a train carrying coal derailed onto Interstate 25 just north of Pueblo, Colorado Sunday afternoon, the Colorado State Patrol said.
CSP said it happened just before 3:30 p.m. near mile marker 107, which is just south of the Purcell Boulevard exit.
The interstate was closed in both directions. Traffic was being detoured onto Highway 50 and Highway 115. The interstate remained closed as of this morning.
It appears that as many as 10 cars of the BNSF freight train slid off the tracks and over the bridge, landing on the interstate. Part of the overpass bridge collapsed and landed on the tractor-trailer.
No injuries were reported by the train crew.
The National Transportation Safety Board said it will be investigating the crash and federal Transportation Department staff members were headed to the scene.
