(Mass State Police photo)Much of the eastern half of the U.S. is digging out of the first major ice and snow storm that caused travel problems from the Mississippi River to the Eastern seaboard and from the deep South to northern New England.
Pennsylvania was hit particularly hard causing speed limits to be reduced and some trucks banned from I-84. At least 9 inches of snow was reported in West Virginia, Maryland and Pennsylvania. Some 300,000 homes were left without power, thousands of flights were canceled or delayed and classes at many schools suspended.
All truck bans in New York and Pennsylvania were lifted this morning.
Thursday wound up being the snowiest November day on record for New York City.
