Updated Feb 9, 2021

Baylor Trucking, a family-owned truckload carrier based in Indiana, plans a special event to be held Saturday, Sept. 19 to celebrate its 75th anniversary and to recognize its professional truck drivers during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.

The company puts drivers and their spouses up for two nights in a hotel to attend the event to be held in a large tent at its headquarters in Milan, Indiana. The VIP event includes a meal, cakes, champagne, entertainment, and personalized masks. All drivers will receive gifts and have their names entered in a raffle to win prizes. Also during the celebration, 75 prize-filled balloons will drop from the ceiling.

At the VIP event, Baylor Trucking will also announce the winning drivers assigned to the company’s new fleet of 75th anniversary trucks. The trucks have premium exterior and interior specs that include special paint colors and decal packages; chrome bumpers; interior desks and personalized seat covers.

“As we commemorate our 75th anniversary during NTDAW, Baylor Trucking wants to go above and beyond to acknowledge our gratitude and to honor our amazing professional drivers,” Baylor said.

Baylor Trucking was founded in 1946 by World War II veteran Chester Baylor with one truck. In 1986, the late Bob Baylor, an Army veteran, took over the business with a handful of trucks and grew it into a 300-truck fleet. Today the legacy of the 75-year-old business continues with Cari Baylor as its third-generation family leader.

“To be able to start a trucking business from the cornfields of Indiana and sustain it through 75 years of economic cycles is a remarkable accomplishment,” said Cari Baylor, president of Baylor Trucking. “We are grateful to God and give praise to all of our professional drivers and team members who have contributed to our success.”

Baylor Trucking will continue its 75th anniversary celebration throughout 2021 by doing 75 acts of kindness for the local community.

Service One Transportation traditionally hosts a driver appreciation lunch and open house in honor of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week; however, safety concerns for its workforce and their families prompted the company to defer any large-scale gatherings until the threat of coronavirus transmission has abated. Instead, Service One will mark the occasion by gifting all of its drivers with a high-visibility hooded sweatshirt bearing a vintage-style logo.

“I believe one of the things that became increasingly apparent during this pandemic was the importance the American truck driver played in helping to keep some semblance of normalcy in people’s lives,” said Dan Flagstad, Jr., president of Service One Transportation. “Our drivers certainly felt a change in the way they were treated while on the road, with the greatest respect and gratitude. I couldn’t be prouder of the work our drivers do each day, and I am very thankful to have each and every one of them as part of the Service One team.”

While National Truck Driver Appreciation Week occurs once a year, Flagstad notes that driver appreciation was one of the core principles his father founded Service One upon in 1997.
