When it comes to heart problems, knowing what to look for can be a big help, especially when it comes to heart attacks. According to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, acting fast, at the first symptoms of heart attack, can save your life. Here are five signs from the American Heart Association to help you know if you might be suffering a heart attack:
Discomfort in the center of the chest that lasts more than a few minutes, or that goes away and comes back. It can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain.
Pain or discomfort in one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach.
Shortness of breath with or without chest discomfort.
Other signs may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness.
Women are more likely than men to experience the common symptoms in addition to chest pain.
