Oliver & Vincent

St. Vincent | PG 13

Simply put, this is as good a movie as you are likely to see for the rest of the year. On the surface, it’s a comedy — hey, it stars Bill Murray and Melissa McCarthy — but it turns touching and meaningful on so many levels. Maggie (McCarthy) and her son Oliver (Jaeden Lieberher) move in next to the the slightly odd and somewhat annoying Vincent (Murray) while trying to start a new life. Vincent initially pushes all the wrong buttons, but Maggie befriends him to help care for her child after school. The relationship between Vincent and Oliver blossoms, and the stories behind who Vincent really is comes through. St. Vincent includes outstanding performances by Naomi Watts and Chris O’Dowd. Arrives on DVD today (Feb. 17).
