Kentucky Headhunters deliver the blues

Southern rockers Kentucky Headhunters

It’s been four years since last we from the Kentucky Hunters, but last week they broke the drought with the delivery of Meet Me in Bluesland. Welcome back! The 11-cut album includes a number of songs they recorded — but never released — with Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame pianist Johnnie Johnson, who died in 2005. Meet Me in Bluesland is pure Southern Rock and classic Headhunters. The title track is a showcase for Johnson and almost six full minutes of the kind of music that defines the blues. Fast Train is sweet instrumental, but it’stheir cover of the Chuck Berry hit Little Queenie that may be one of the album’s brightest spots. No surprise there as Johnson was Berry’s piano player. $9.99 to download on iTunes or, $13.99 for the CD on Amazon. The entire track list includes:

Stumblin’
Walking With the Wolf
Little Queenie
She’s Got To Have It
Party In Heaven
Meet Me In Bluesland
King Rooster
Shufflin’ Back To Memphis
Fast Train
Sometime
Superman Blues
