Netflix announced it will premiere an original 10-part documentary crime series âMaking a Murdererâ Dec. 18, available exclusively to members of the streaming service.
The documentary series details the story of Steven Avery, a man who was convicted and then exonerated of a brutal assault. Upon getting out of prison, he launched a lawsuit against police and was set to collect millions of dollars. While pursuing his civil case he became the lead suspect in the murder of a photographer.
Directors Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos spent the last decade detailing this story and compiling interviews and court materials. In the documentary, they take a look at what went wrong in the case, how it came to end in murder and what impact modern science and legislative reforms has in such cases.
