Truckers Jamboree gets under way Thursday in Iowa

One of the biggest parties of the summer for the U.S. trucking community gets started later this week.

The Iowa 80 Truckstop in Walcott, Iowa, hosts the 38th annual Walcott Truckers Jamboree, Thursday, July 13, through Saturday, July 15. Some 44,000 people are expected to attend.

The free event will feature country music concerts, fireworks, a show truck competition, Trucker Olympics, numerous venders and a celebration of one of the oldest trucks in the Iowa 80 collection.

The Jamboree opens Thursday at 10 a.m. with exhibits and the Super Truck Beauty Contest and Antique Truck Display. There will be a pork chop cookout throughout the day, and Trucker Olympics beginning at 12:30 p.m. Local favorite the Dani Lynn Howe & Band will open at 5:30 p.m. for former “The Voice” contestant Mary Sarah, who is scheduled to go on at 7 p.m. A fireworks display will be held at 9 p.m.

Friday’s schedule is similar, with the addition of a 100th birthday party for a 1917 Velie truck at 2:30 p.m. at the Iowa 80 Trucking Museum. The Friday night concert features trucker and recording artist Tony Justice opening at 5 p.m. for country artist Collin Raye, who takes the stage at 7 p.m. Fireworks follow the concert.

The show closes Saturday with the Super Truck Beauty Contest awards presentation at 3 p.m.
