For many truck drivers, especially those with working trucks in the Midwest, all roads will lead to Walcott, Iowa late next week as the 39th annual Walcott Truckers Jamboree unfolds at the Iowa 80 Truck Stop.
The jamboree opens the morning of Thursday, July 12 and wraps up Saturday night, July 14. In between, there will be a variety of events that have, over the years, made this a favorite on the truck show circuit. Scheduled are:
- Super Truck Beauty Contest
- Antique Truck Display; Iowa pork chop cookout
- over 150 exhibits
- Trucker Olympics
- carnival games
- two fireworks displays
- a 100th birthday party for Iowa 80 Trucking Museum’s 1918 Independent (built in Davenport, IA)
- several live concerts
“There will be fun for everyone,” said Heather DeBaillie, Iowa 80’s marketing manager. “Trucks, games, music, food, fireworks and more. We are proud to celebrate America’s Truckers for the important job they do in keeping America rolling.”
On Thursday, local favorite Dani Lynn Howe and Band get things rockin’ at 5 p.m. She’s followed by country singer/songwriter Logan Mize, who’ll perform songs from his latest album Come Back Road.
On Friday, the jamboree grounds will be filled with the southern rock sounds of the Grammy and CMA winning group The Kentucky Headhunters. North of 40 opens for the Headhunters at 5:30 p.m.
On Saturday, the music’s provided by Eric Chesser starting at 1 p.m.
Fireworks will light up the Iowa night skies Thursday and Friday at 9 p.m. There’s also the truck light show and judging Thursday night.
Admission and parking for the jamboree and all concerts are free. Shuttles run from the parking area to the event grounds.
Iowa 80 Truckstop is located on I-80 at Exit 284.
