Change is afoot for a fundraising event popular with truckers.
The 36th Annual Make-A-Wish Mother’s Day Truck Convoy, has a new date: May 10, the Saturday before the Mother's Day holiday. Organizers said the change will help improve attendance, enhance volunteer availability, and encourage more participation from drivers and Wish families.
While the event will still take place during Mother’s Day weekend, this shift allows families to enjoy both the convoy and their Mother’s Day celebrations without conflict, according to a statement from Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware & Susquehanna Valley.
The convoy is a primary fundraising activity for Make-A-Wish, which grants wishes to local children battling critical. illnesses. It's open to trucks with a gross vehicle weight of t least 26,001 pounds. Others truck can participate and will be placed at the end of the convoy. See more details for drivers here.
This change also comes at the recommendation of the event's safety committee, which wanted to ensure there is adequate support and safety measures in place throughout the day. Organizers said they confident the change will continue to make this community tradition even more successful, while keeping safety as the top priority.
The event is held at the Manheim Pennsylvania Auto Auction. This popular Lancaster County tradition brings together wish families, truck drivers, and community members to raise funds for Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware & Susquehanna Valley.
