Alabama company expands into Baltimore

ASF Intermodal, which is based in Mobile, Alabama recently announced its expansion into Baltimore with the opening of its 13th intermodal drayage terminal. This new location, the company’s first Maryland terminal, joins 12 other strategically-positioned terminals throughout the South and Midwest.

ASF Intermodal President Michael Smith said the company’s expansion into Baltimore is a strategic one. He said, “Baltimore is an area that we have been interested in for some time. With its positioning on the Atlantic in proximity to the Midwest and just a day’s drive away from one third of the U.S. population, Baltimore is an ideal strategic fit for our regional network.

â€śWe are very enthusiastic about our expansion into Baltimore. Our customers have been asking us to expand into this market, so we are confident that there is great potential in Baltimore, both with our existing customer base and opportunities to build relationships with new customers. We are also excited to provide a new option for the owner-operators in this market. We are confident that they’ll find our pay structure and culture to be very appealing.”

Smith said the new location will begin with three employees and approximately 30 drivers. He said the company expects to have up to 30 trucks operating from Baltimore within the next 12 months.

Gene Burgee serves as terminal manager for the Baltimore terminal, which is located at 4800 East Lombard Street. Baltimore joins Mobile, Houston, Atlanta, Charleston, Charlotte, Dallas, Fort Worth Memphis, New Orleans, Norfolk, Savannah and Chicago.
