Commercial vehicle driver training is coming to – or rather, coming back to – Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington. At least, hopefully.
The college previously hosted a grant-funded CDL program but there weren’t enough students to sustain it. That’s different now, though, according to representatives from the college who cite interest from local trucking companies as a reason for wanting to bring the program back.
Eastern Wyoming College is part of a consortium of three community colleges applying for state grant funding to launch CDL training programs. The other colleges are Laramie County Community College and Northwest College. The three colleges are projecting a funding request of almost $1.3 million, reports Lusk Herald.
The college hopes to launch their programs in the spring, contingent upon funding and other factors.
Eastern NY Chamber seeks skilled trades workers
In Glens Falls, New York, the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce is launching a scholarship program to recruit more trade workers to the area, including truck drivers.
The ARCC Leadership Adirondack Scholarship will provide financial assistance to eligible students pursuing skilled trades programs such as CDL programs, construction, or manufacturing. It is expected to launch in 2020.
