Briefly: Swift partners with FleetForce to offer CDL training in Alabama

 FleetForce Truck Driver Training has partnered with Swift Transportation to provide CDL training and certification beginning at the trucking company’s Mobile, Alabama terminal. 

The partnership is designed to will meet the growing demand for truck drivers in the Southeast, while helping Swift meet its own need for drivers.

 “As demand grows for qualified, safe, and productive drivers, Swift is committed to helping build the next generation of transportation professionals. We are excited to offer expanded career opportunities for both new and experienced drivers,” said Kort Chase, Vice President of Recruiting at Swift Transportation.

FleetForce instructors offer classroom instruction and hands-on training to prepare future drivers for their Class A, B or C Commercial Driver’s License certifications. Its partnership with Swift marks its first program location in Alabama.

Deadline for Transition Trucking award nears

The deadline is approaching for nominations for the Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence Award, which recognizes new truckers iwho. served in the military.

Together, Kenworth, FASTPORT and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring our Heroes initiative continues the search for America’s top rookie military veteran driver who has successfully transitioned to the trucking industry following military service. 

 Carriers and CDL training schools have until June 30 to nominate up to five drivers for the award. 

To qualify, drivers must meet eligibility requirements including:

  • Be a legal resident of the continental United States and military veteran or current/former member of the National Guard or Reserves

  • Graduated from a PTDI-certified, NAPFTDS or CVTA member driver training school, and carries a valid CDL

  • Has been employed by any for-hire carrier or private fleet that has pledged to hire veterans and hired as a CDL driver after January 1, 2025.

The grand prize Kenworth T680 features a Diamond VIT interior in slate gray with madrona accents and includes the latest in driver amenities. 

Award semi-finalists will be announced on Aug. 5. Public voting on the finalists will occur from Nov. 1 through 11. The final award announcement will be made in mid-December.
