Truck Driver Appreciation Week arrives; see who’s celebrating

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week (NTDAW) — Sunday, Sept. 13 through Saturday, Sept. 19 — is filled with a variety of events, promotions and tributes recognizing the 3.2 million truck drivers responsible for moving America’s freight across the country every day.

The week was created in 1988 by the American Trucking Association (ATA) as a way to thank drivers for their commitment to the industry.

“National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is a tremendous tradition, one that ATA is proud to carry on each year,” said ATA President and CEO Bill Graves. “We value the men and women who safely deliver our nation’s goods, and keep America moving forward, and we encourage fleets and shippers to honor their drivers for their hard work and commitment to the industry during this week and every week.”

Companies across the nation are hosting events and promotions in honor of truck drivers throughout the week. The Truckload Carriers Association will hold a health fair at various locations across the nation, bringing together medical professionals and truck drivers for blood pressure screenings and more.

Fleets will also be recognizing their drivers during the week.

Here’s a few of the the events happening during this weeklong celebration of America’s truck drivers:

Love’s Travel Stops

Love’s Travel Stops is giving away one million My Love Rewards points as part of the celebration. Drivers can enter to win the one million My Love Rewards Points by swiping their My Love Rewards card on fuel, merchandise of tire care purchases during the week. Up to 10,000 My Love Rewards card members can win 10,000 points instantly by swiping their card at a Love’s.

TNT Truck Wash

TNT Truck Wash will give away prizes each day and have a grand prize basket filled with goods worth over $150 as the grand prize. They will also have burgers and hotdogs Sept. 18 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. They have locations in Columbus and Cincinnati, Ohio; and Indianapolis, Ind.

Truckload Carriers Association

TCA is hosting free driver health fair events at select TravelCenters of America and Petro locations across the nation. The program, called On-Ramp to Better Health, will bring medical professionals and truck drivers together for blood pressure screenings and glucose tests, as well as flu shots. Any truck driver holding a valid CDL may stop by one of the following locations between 3-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15:

  • TA Eloy: 2949 N. Toltec Rd., Eloy, Ariz.
  • Petro Ontario East: 4325 East Guasti Rd., Ontario, Calif.
  • TA Cartersville: 981 Cassville White Rd., Cartersville, Ga.

Pilot Flying J

Pilot Flying J is honoring drivers throughout the month of September. The company is offering weekly and daily deals, and those pumping diesel fuel this month will receive one additional point for each gallon purchased when using their rewards card. Featured deals include:

TA Petro

TravelCenters is hosting driver appreciation events at several of their TA and Petro locations through Oct. 2.  They will distribute driver appreciation giveaways at participating locations. UltraONE members can earn double points on fuel purchases when they swipre their UltraONE card at TravelCenters sites on Tuesday, Sept. 14. They will also have merchandise, games and music at their events.

Rudolph Foods

Rudolph Foods, manufacturer of pork rinds, celebrates National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, Sunday, Sept. 13 through Saturday, Sept. 19 with the culmination of an online driver-themed online game with a chance to win $2,000 and a year’s supply of pork rinds.

The campaign will be supported by brands that include Rudolph’s, Southern Recipe, Pepe’s and Lee’s Pig Skins. This is Rudolph Foods’ fourth annual campaign.

The game asks players to fill the bed of their truck with pork rinds while being careful not to overfill or under-fill it. All the while, players are reminded of the important role truck drivers play in delivering America’s food, coast to coast.

North American Truck Stop Network

In honor of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week, Sunday, Sept. 13 through Saturday, Sept. 19, participating North American Truck Stop Network (NATSN) locations are offering VIP Plus Cardholders double points all month.
