Drivers traveling on I-40 in Arkansas today can enjoy some music, food and other entertainment as part of National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.

Lindsay Lawler’s Truck Stop Tour sets up at the TA/Petro Stopping Center in North Little Rock (i-40 at the Galloway Exit) through 3 p.m. The tour is presented by the Truckload Carriers Association, and is part of the week’s celebration by the Arkansas Trucking Association.

“National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is a time we dedicate to acknowledging and honoring the millions of men and women who safely and professionally move freight across our country each and every day,” Arkansas Trucking Association President Shannon Newton said in announcing the event.

“Arkansas is home to more than 83,000 people who are employed in the trucking industry and over 38,000 of those are truck drivers,” Newton said. “This week, we focus on celebrating these professional men and women who deliver the products individuals, families and businesses rely on all year round. Truck Driver Appreciation Week is about reminding the public of truck drivers’ enormous impact on our way of life and of course, of reminding the truck drivers of our gratitude for their commitment to this demanding profession.”

For 16 years, the organization has set up tents and served food to truck drivers traveling through Arkansas during National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.

The association thanked the following companies for their assistance with this year’s Truck Driver Appreciation Day: ABF Freight; Aon Risk Services; Ben E. Keith Company; Burnett Insurance; C.C. Jones Trucking; CalArk International; Concentra Medical Center; Cummins Mid-South; D.W. Story & Associates; Great West Casualty Company; LEB Trucking; PC Promotions; Rand McNally; Stallion Transportation Group; TA Petro Stopping Center; Tyson Foods.

National Truck Driver Appreciation Week continues through Saturday, Sept. 19.
