William Usher, tank truck company owner, passes

William A. Usher, longtime owner of Usher Transport, a Louisville, Kentucky-based tank truck company, died earlier this week. Mr. Usher, who was also active in the trucking industry nationally, was 86.

William Amos “Bill” Usher, 86, of Paducah, Kentucky passed away Feb. 14 after a short illness at Morningside Assisted Living.

He was owner and manager of Usher Transport for many years. He served as 1986-87 chairman of National Tank Truck Carriers, and the association’s top driver award was named the “William A. Usher Sr. Professional Tank Truck Driver of the Year Award” in his honor.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia “Ginger” Sabel Usher, two sons, William A Usher Jr and wife Cindy and Alan W Usher and wife, Liz both of Louisville; one step-daughter, Karen Elizabeth Reed Alpers and husband John, of Austin, Texas; one step-son, James Boone Reed and wife, Ragan of Paducah, Kentucky; three grandsons, Ryan Lunsford Usher and wife, Jessica, William Patrick Usher and William A Usher III; three step-grandsons, David Roscoe Reed II, William Murphy Reed and Ely E Mazmanians; step-granddaughter, Avary Frazier; special extended family members, Gabriel Vieira, Kathleen Overlin, Sabel Overlin, Max Overlin, Elise Overlin and Stacy Overlin.

Preceding in death were his parents; Harlan Lunsford Usher and Flora Mae Burradell Usher; first wife, Polly Jane Tucker Usher Fowler; daughter in law, Amelia Houvouras Usher.

Memorial services will be held at 2 pm Thursday, Feb. 18, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Gregory Waldrop officiating.
