Here’s a recap of who won awards at TCA convention

Company Driver of the Year finalists and their fleet representatives at the Truckload Carriers Association convention last week.

Someone from Bison Transport should have driven one of the company’s trucks to the 78th annual Truckload Carriers Association Convention in Las Vegas last week to haul home the awards they won. The Canadian company won three major awards.

A number of awards were shared and here’s who won what:

Past Chairman’s Award: The TCA’s Past Chairmen’s Award was given to Dan England, chairman of the board for C.R. England, Inc., of Salt Lake City, Utah, and a former chairman of TCA from 1997-98.

2015 Highway Angel of the Year Award: Josh Grimaldi, who drives for for Prime, Inc., of Springfield, Missouri was honored for his efforts to save the life of a pregnant accident victim.

Best Fleets To Drive For: FTC Transportation, Inc., of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, was selected as the Best Overall Fleet in the small carrier category, an award sponsored by EpicVue. Bison Transport of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada was selected as the Best Overall Fleet in the large carrier category, an award sponsored by Bose Corporation.

The Lee J. Crittenden Memorial Award: Charles R. “Chuck” Wirth, president of the American Institute of Trucking, Inc., of Phoenix, Arizona, received is the Lee J. Crittenden Memorial Award, presented by the Professional Truck Driver Institute, Inc. The Crittenden Award, sponsored by Cengage Learning of Clifton Park, New York, is given to a person who exemplifies the overall mission of PTDI.

National Fleet Safety Awards: The best fleets to drive for also proved to be the safest. The TCA’s grand prize fleet safety awards went to FTC Transportation, Inc., and Bison Transport. The fleet safety contest is sponsored by Great West Casualty Company.

Driver of the Year Awards: The Company Driver of the Year award was given to Danny Smith of Shelbyville, Tennessee, who drives for Big G Express, Inc., also of Shelbyville, Tennessee. Truckers News was a partner in the company driver award. The Owner Operator of the Year honor went to Edward “Mark” Tricco of Brandon, Manitoba, who is leased to Bison Transport of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Overdrive magazine was an award partner for this honor. The awards are sponsored by Love’s Travel Centers and Cummins.
