Brake Safety Week scheduled for Sept. 11-17

Brake Inspection Week coming in September

You have about two months to get ready for the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s Brake Safety Week.

From Sept. 11 to 17 law enforcement agencies across North America will inspect commercial vehicles for out-of-adjustment brakes, and brake system and anti-lock braking system violations.

The CVSA says inspectors will look for:
  • Loose or missing parts
  • Air or hydraulic fluid leaks
  • Worn linings, pads, drums or rotors
  • Other faulty brake system components
  • ABS malfunction indicator lights

Defective or out-of-adjustment brakes will result in the vehicle being placed out-of-service, according to the CVSA.

Most inspections occurring during the week will be full Level I inspections, according to CVSA. Ten jurisdictions will be using performance-based brake testing to measure braking efficiency.

During 2015’s brake inspection event, inspectors conducted 18,817 inspections and placed 2,321 of those trucks out-of-service.
