Illinois State Police continue investigating a shooting that occurred Friday, April 21 on I-88 that left a Florida truck driver dead.

Eduardo Munoz, 43, was shot about 4:05 p.m. in Oak Brook, west of Chicago, according to the state police.

Munoz was driving a red 2007 Volvo tractor-trailer eastbound on I-88 (the Reagan Memorial Tollway) when someone in another vehicle heading in the same direction shot at the truck, hitting him, according to a statement from the state police. They say he was able to pull off the road and onto the shoulder at milepost 138.5, just west of York Road, near Salt Creek.

Munoz was taken by ambulance to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to police.

The Cook Count coroner’s office said an autopsy was scheduled for today.

Police said they did not know why the person in the other vehicle fired at Munoz.
