If you’re driving through much of the south for the next week or so, you may wish to keep an eye on your speedo.

“Operation Southern Shield”, a speed enforcement program started today, July 17 in Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama and Tennessee and continues through Sunday, July 23. It’s also targeting impaired and distracted drivers and those not wearing seat belts.

State and local law enforcement agencies have stepped up patrols to enforce posted speed limits on all highways, roads and streets.

The extra patrols are being funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
