U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested a 41-year-old trucker when he tried to smuggle 31 Mexican citizens into the U.S. earlier this week.

The arrest was made at the Interstate 19 immigration checkpoint near Amado, Arizona Wednesday, Sept. 18.

A statement from the agency said, “After a Border Patrol canine alerted to the vehicle, agents referred a 2008 Freightliner for secondary inspection, where they discovered and arrested 31 Mexican nationals concealed in the cargo trailer, all illegally present in the country.”

The Mexican nationals, ages 15 to 40, were processed for immigration violations, according to the Border Patrol, which did not identify the driver, a U.S. citizen.
