Fire destroys truck stop in Kings Mountain, North Carolina

A major truck stop in North Carolina was destroyed by fire in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Jan. 2.

A statement from the Kings Mountain Police Department said the blaze at the Kings Mountain Truck Plaza was reported shortly after 1 a.m. When firefighters arrived, the main structure of the travel plaza was fully involved.

Eight departments responded to the blaze at the truck stop located near Exit 5 of Interstate 85. It is located near the Catawba Two Kings Casino. 

A firefighter was injured while fighting the blaze. They were treated and released from a nearby hospital.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation, according to the Kings Mountain Police Department's statement.

The truck stop had 72 truck parking spots, eight diesel lanes, six showers, and a drivers' lounge.

Kings Mountain is located about 30 miles west of Charlotte.
