A two-vehicle crash on the New York State Thruway Thursday morning, March 14, left part of a tandem tractor-trailer dangling off an overpass.
The crash occurred at about 8:30 a.m. when an eastbound FedEx tandem tractor-trailer sideswiped a disabled vehicle near mile marker 356. The tractor remained on the Thruway while the two trailers went over the edge of the overpass above Mendon Center Road in Pittsford near Rochester.
Five people were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital, including the truck driver who was able to climb out of his truck. Four people in the SUV were also transported. All of the injuries were said by New York State Police to have been non-life-threatening.
Both trailers were empty at the time of the crash.
One eastbound lane of the Thruway remained open but traffic was slowed.
The damage to the bridge will be repaired and inspected.
