A college town in east Texas is the latest community to ban parked commercial vehicles, including tractor-trailers, on city streets.

The city council of College Station, Texas recently voted to not allow truck parking because of complaints by residents.

The ordinance defines a commercial vehicle as “a motor vehicle or combination weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds, including a towed unit with a gross vehicle weight or a gross vehicle weight rating of more than 10,000 pounds; or has a gross vehicle weight or gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 or more pounds.”

The city said it will observe a six-month grace period before enforcing the ban. During that time, the city will use a variety of methods to alert truckers of the ban.

College Station is a city of some 124,000 residents located about 87 miles northeast of Houston, and is home to Texas A & M University.
