A 41-year-old truck driver was arrested after ramming his tractor-trailer into two police vehicles on Interstate 15 in Utah Sunday, May 5, killing a local officer and fleeing the scene.

Police identified the truck driver as Michael Aaron Jayne. He was arrested about 100 miles away after having stolen three other vehicles and leading police on a brief chase.

Santaquin police Sgt. Bill Hooser was assisting a Utah State Trooper with a traffic stop on I-15 Sunday after receiving a report of a person standing on the back of a moving tractor-trailer. Reports of the incident say Jayne drove away from the two officers, made an abrupt U-turn and drove back towards them, striking the two vehicles and Hooser, who died at the scene.

Jayne, fled the scene on foot and stole a tractor-trailer from a near by convenience store. He eventually abandoned the semi, stole a pickup, drove further before stealing yet another pickup. Police apprehended Jayne when he crashed the second pickup truck.

Police continue their investigation.
