Four people were killed when a tractor-trailer slammed into a line of traffic stopped in a highway construction zone in northern Minnesota Wednesday, Aug. 14.

A Minnesota State Patrol report of the incident, which occurred at about 3 p.m. on Highway 2 about 37 miles west of Duluth, said a tractor-trailer â€śstruck the stopped vehicles at highway speeds." Four people in a Honda Pilot-- a couple and two children --  died when it was struck by the tractor-trailer. The MSP gave no reason why the trucker did not stop before hitting the other vehicles.

Two other SUVs and another tractor-trailer were also involved in the chain-reaction crash.

The driver of the truck that struck the stopped vehicles was identified by MSP as Gregory Scott Anwiler, 63, of Grand Rapids, Minnesota. He is said to have suffered noncritical injuries and was taken to a Duluth hospital.

Two others, including the driver of the other tractor-trailer, were injured. Three other people were uninjured.

Killed in the crash was the SUV driver Vincent Louis Dow, 65, according to the MSP report. They identified the passengers as Bonnie Mae Dow, 66, and 9-year-old girls Hope Mae Oakgrove and Charlotte White. The victims were from Blackduck, Minnesota.

Police continue their investigation.
