Humber Polytechnic, a college based in Toronto, recently announced it would end its professional driver training program at the end of the year.

A posting on the college website and signed by Wanda Buote Dean, Education and Training Solutions said:

"Humber has made the difficult decision to close our Commercial Truck Driving Program on December 31, 2024. While Humber has a long history of offering transportation training, market conditions have changed, and it is no longer feasible to continue to offer this line of training.

"Humber is proud of the program’s more than three decades of safely training commercial truck drivers in Ontario.

"We are grateful to the incredible staff and instructors who have demonstrated their passion and commitment to transportation training and to Humber.

"It is because of your dedication that Humber was able to provide a positive commercial truck driving experience to so many learners over the years."

Humber has more than 200 program and an enrollment of some 86,000 students.

College building new CDL program facility

Mississippi's Itawamba Community College broke ground Monday for its Commercial Truck Driving Training Center which will be located at the new driving range across the street from the Tupelo Campus.

The 8,504-square-foot facility will include multiple truck bays, lab with a truck driving simulator, classroom, exterior wash bay, three offices and storage space.

“Today we break ground on a facility that will not only enhance our institution but will also help us to better meet a need in our region and beyond,” said ICC President Dr. Jay Allen. “This new Commercial Truck Driving Training Center symbolizes more than the start of another construction project, but represents our continued commitment to education, workforce development and the future of our students. Our goal, as always, is to provide sustainable pathways to success, and this center will do just that by providing a space for our students to learn and train for a critical role in today’s economy.”

ICC’s CTD program prepares individuals to drive Class A semitrucks and other commercial vehicles. It includes four-week or six-week training options.
