Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday; time to turn clocks back an hour

It's time to fall back.

Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday at 2 a.m., so plan to set your clocks back an hour before you crawl into your truck's sleeper berth for the night.

The change undoes the hour lost when clocks were set ahead one hour last spring.

It's unlikely your smartphone will require you to change the time; most do that on their own. Be sure to check your other electronic devices -- GPS, ELD, tablet, laptop -- to ensure they adjust the time on their own or if you have to reset it.

The time change does not apply to Arizona (except for the Navajo nation), Hawaii and several U.S. territories. These locations do not observe Daylight Saving Time, which was first implemented in the U.S. during WW I, but only lasted seven months. It was also used briefly during WW II.

The Uniform Time Act was passed in 1966, making Daylight Saving Time permanent.

There have been several attempts to impose Daylight Saving Time year 'round, but the legislation never passed both houses of Congress.

Be aware that time changes like Sundays and the one that occurred in the Spring can have an impact on your sleep. Be sure you're properly rested and alert before you begin your driving day.
