Cargo theft in November was evenly distributed throughout the month, with the highest activity on some days during the first two weeks of the month, according to Overhaul, the Austin, Texas-based cargo theft prevention and recovery firm.

According to a statement from the company, November marks the beginning of some of the most important holidays in the country, so trade and cargo movement increase, and the same happens with cargo theft.

This trend extends until the first weeks of December and then tends to slow down, but the parcel services sector continues to have high theft rates until mid-January.

Overhaul said Southern California, Fort Worth/Dallas, Chicago and Memphis were the primary hotspots for cargo theft in November.

November cargo theft showed a similar trend to what was seen in October. Most of the theft is concentrated between Monday and Thursday, but the percentages of cargo theft on Saturday and Sunday are increasing. Last month, Saturday had an 8% theft rate, and now it has increased to 12%, while Sunday maintained its level with an 11% theft rate.

Overhaul said pilferage reduced its level by 16 percentage points, while last-mile courier events grew by 11 percentage points, and this level is expected to remain at least for the next month. This month, electronics were not the most targeted product, with miscellaneous taking first place, including parcel services.
