A significant amount of cocaine was found in a tractor-trailer stopped in Arizona earlier this week.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety recently announced that one of its Commercial Vehicle Enforcement troopers stopped a tractor-trailer that was eastbound on Interstate 40 in Holbrook, about 90 miles east of Flagstaff. The stop took place Monday, Jan. 6.
During the stop, the trooper observed "multiple indicators of criminal activity," according to the AZDPS. A further inspection found 553.8 pounds of suspected cocaine hidden in the load of produce.
The estimated street value of the cocaine seized is between approximately $16.6 million and $22.1 million.
AZDPOS said further investigation revealed the drugs were being smuggled from the cities of Salinas and Los Angeles, California, to Canada.The driver, 31-year-old Amarjeet Singh Matharu, was arrested and booked into the Navajo County Jail on charges including possession and transportation of narcotic drugs for sale.
