The “Safely Together” campaign calls attention to ways drivers in personal vehicles can safely share the road with tractor trailers. Crete Carrier President and Chief Operating Officer Tim Aschoff says the goal is in the name, to help everyone traveling on our highways reach their destinations safely.
“I ask drivers what's the most challenging part of the job? And more andm more, I hear that, ‘It’s the motoring public around me, not driving safely.’ And so, we really wanted to help people who are not truck drivers understand how to safely drive around our trucks and around all drivers out there.”
The “Safely Together” campaign includes a series of short videos on topics including following distance, blind spot awareness, and giving drivers the space they need to turn. The videos are available online, the Crete Carrier Corporation YouTube channel and Facebook page.
David Snitily, Crete's director of communications, said the concept for the videos originated from multiple impromptu conversations he's had with drivers.
"As you know professional drivers have a tough job, while providing a service most of us take for granted," Snitily said. "So I asked drivers what types of things the general public could do to show their appreciation for the job they do.
"General safety awareness was the common theme behind their answers. So that is what we are trying to accomplish, which will hopefully make the roads safer for all involved."
Aschoff said following these safety tips is also a way to say ‘thank you’ to the professional truck drivers who deliver the things we all need every day.
“Trucking is a critical industry. Drivers have a challenging job. You can recognize and thank drivers by driving safely around them," said Aschoff.
