
Morning commuter traffic was disrupted Monday, June 30, when a wind turbine blade fell off the tractor-trailer that was transporting it on westbound Interstate 70 near Interstate 81 northeast of Williamsport, Maryland.
A Maryland State Highway Administration spokesperson said the more than 100-foot-long blade struck a guardrail. The impact caused the blade to land on part of the eastbound lanes, while the truck remained in the westbound lanes.
An eastbound tractor-trailer struck the blade.
The incident occurred at about 5 a.m. and the highway was closed for several hours.
A highway department worker was slightly injured when working on the guardrail that was struck.
Indiana seeks to add tolls to all its interstates
The state of Indiana is seeking federal permission to collect tolls on all of the interstate highways passing through its boundaries.
If approved, Indiana would be the only state to place tolls on all of its interstate.
In May the state passed legislation allowing it to seek Federal Highway Administration permission.
The only tolled interstate in Indiana currently is I-80/90.
Interstates in Indiana include, 64, 65, 69, 70, 74, 80, 90 and 94.
