Arkansas driving competition champion wins title for second time

A FedEx Freight driver won his second grand championship title at the recent Arkansas Truck Driving Championship competition. 

Jeff Chochran won the top award at the event held June 27 and June 28 at the Rogers Convention Center in Rogers, Arkansas. He also won the three-axle class.

Chaunce Umfleet, who drives for FedEx was the runner up. He also took home the sportsmanship award.

Ronnie Mahan, a FedEx Freight driver won the award for the highest pre-trip score, and Dave Hall, who drives for ABF Freight, had the highest score on the written exam.

Rookie of the year was Chandler Compton of FedEx.

ABF Freight won the small team award, and FedEx Freight won the large team award.

The class  winners include: 

  • 3 Axle: Jeff Cochran – FedEx Freight
  • 4 Axle: Chaunce Umfleet – FedEx Corp.
  • 5 Axle: Nathan Evans – Tyson Foods
  • Flatbed: Phillip Thurner – Tyson Foods
  • Sleeper: Gary Mars – Walmart Transportation
  • Step Van: Eric Brockette – FedEx Freight
  • Straight Truck: Jessie King – FedEx Freight
  • Tanker: Marcus Rush – Walmart Transportation
  • Twins: Dave Hall – ABF Freight 

The class winners qualify for the national competition Aug. 21-23 in Minneapolis.
