$3.5 million worth of pot seized during commercial vehicle inspection

Arkansas Highway Police Division of the state's Department Transportation seized about 3,000 pounds of marijuana during an inspection of commercial vehicle Saturday, Oct. 11.

The pot, valued at more than $3.5 million, was concealed in a shipment of pool tables, according to a statement from the police.

The driver, identified as Steve Williams, 43, was believed by police to be traveling  from California to Florida. He was arrested at the scene and booked into the Crawford County Detention Center on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and simultaneous possession of a firearm.

“This seizure underscores the commitment and vigilance of AHP officers to combat drug trafficking and ensure the safety of our roadways,” AHP Chief Jeff Holmes said in a statement.

According to ARDOT, Highway Police officers have seized more than 23,000 pounds of illegal drugs on Arkansas highways so far in 2025.
