Two men are facing drug charges after law enforcement agents in Florida recently discovered over 380 pounds of cocaine in their tractor-trailer.
Authorities estimate the street value of the cocaine at $14.7 million.
According to a statement from Florida Lt. Governor Jay Collins, on Oct. 5 the Drug Enforcement Agency’s West Palm Beach office alerted the Florida Highway Patrol to intelligence regarding a semi-truck suspected of transporting narcotics from the Mexican-Texas border into South Florida. FHP’s Criminal Interdiction Unit located the vehicle traveling southbound on the Florida Turnpike and conducted a traffic stop for inspection, according to Collins.
During the inspection, troopers discovered a concealed trap door containing multiple duffle bags filled with cocaine. The individuals involved — including one previously deported from the United States — were apprehended and transferred to federal custody for further investigation and prosecution.
