Love it. or hate it, it's time to "fall Back" as Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday.

That means when you go to bed at home or crawl into your sleeper berth Saturday night, be sure to set your clock back one hour.

Your truck's clock and all of your various electronic devices -- smartphone, tablet, GPS navigator, dash cam -- ought to fall back one hour on their own. Be sure to doublecheck your ELD's manual to ensure it makes the adjustment as well.

Keep in mind that falling back can increase risks for your driving life. The change can:

  • increase chances of fatigue while driving so be sure to take breaks. when you can and get in the sunlight and maybe go for a brisk walk or do some stretching exercises
  • mean you're driving in low light conditions sooner, so be extra aware, slow down and increase the space between you and the motorist ahead of you
  • make pedestrians, bicyclists and wildlife more difficult to see, so be extra vigilant

And remember, the clock may change but your adherence to federal laws regulating how long you can drive and when you must take breaks remain the same as always.
