Briefly: Organizations ask Congress to not increase the size of trucks

Today, the National Consumers League (NCL) and the Taxpayers Protection Alliance (TPA), joined by 25 organizations, sent a letter to congressional leaders urging them to reject any proposal to increase the federal truck size and weight limit to permit vehicles above 80,000 pounds on American roadways. 

A statement fro mthe groups said he coalition emphasized that maintaining the current cap is essential to protecting taxpayers, motorists, and the long-term integrity of the nation’s infrastructure.

The letter highlights a connection between heavier trucks and accelerated infrastructure damage. It also raises safety issues.

Among the organizations signing the letter was the Truckload Carrier's Association.

Iowa 80 Truck Museum expands

Iowa 80 Trucking Museum at the Iowa 80 Truck Stop in Walcott, Iowa recently started construction on a 25,000-sq.-ft. expansion of its exhibit hall. The expansion will increase total exhibit space to 121,000 square feet once completed this fall. 

The expansion will allow the museum to exhibit previously unseen vehicles from the collection.

The museum will remain open during construction with regular hours. Admission to the museum is free.
