Starting next week fines are increasing markedly for commercial vehicles traveling and/or blocking a notorious Vermont roadway.
Starting July 1, the fine for a commercial vehicle found on Smuggler's Notch (VT Route 108) increases to $10,000. The fine for a large vehicle becoming stuck and blocking traffic is now $20,000.
A second violation within three years will double the applicable penalty.
Drivers will receive 5 points on their commercial driver's license for every violation.
Smuggler's Notch is well marked that no trucks are allowed, but still many drivers try to negotiate its narrow lanes and tight turns.
UPS adds 27 cross-dock facilities
UPS today announced its $48 million investment in 27 temperature-controlled freight cross-dock facilities around the globe.
Located in key U.S. and international markets, including Europe, Asia and the Americas, these facilities are optimized for speed and short-term storage between air and ground movements – all while maintaining specific temperature requirements.
The company said the move strengthens UPS’s global cold-chain network as demand grows for medicines requiring strict temperature ranges of 2 to 8 degrees Celsius, 15 to 25 degrees Celsius and frozen.
