Missouri to break ground on I-70 truck parking expansion; adds 255 spots

The Missouri Department of Transportation Wednesday holds a groundbreaking ceremony celebrating the start of construction for Improve truck parking along Interstate 70.

The event will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the eastbound I-70 rest area in Concordia near mile marker 57.4. 

Funded through a $33 million federal grant the project that will expand availability of truck parking at the existing truck parking locations in Concordia, Boonville, Mineola, and Wright City. Construction is scheduled to begin this fall and is anticipated to be complete in late 2028.  

The project will add 255 new truck parking spaces.

MDOT said over 10,000 trucks utilize I-70 daily and during peak hours, all of I-70’s public truck parking areas are over capacity and 75% of private truck stops are over capacity. 

Improvements at each location include:

  • Wright City Westbound: Improved pavement, addition of 44 truck parking stalls (total of 64), and minor improvements to facilities.
  • Wright City Eastbound: Improved pavement, addition of 49 truck parking stalls (total of 67), minor improvements to facilities.
  • Mineola Westbound: Improved pavement, addition of 24 truck parking stalls (total of 88).
  • Mineola Eastbound: Improved pavement, addition of 25 truck parking stalls (total of 54).
  • Boonville Westbound: Improved pavement, addition of 40 truck parking stalls (total of 60).
  • Boonville Eastbound: Improved pavement, addition of 28 parking stall (total of 49).
  • Concordia Westbound: Improved pavement, addition of 29 truck parking stalls (total of 48), and minor improvements to facilities.
  • Concordia Eastbound: Improved pavement, addition of 16 truck parking stalls (total of 44), and minor improvements to facilities.
