The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has finalized a rule increasing Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) fees by an average of 20% for the 2027 registration year and subsequent years

Increases range from $9 for small owner-operators/lowest tiers up to $9,329 for the largest fleets. The increases apply to the 2027 registration year, with collections starting this October.

The FMCSA said the fee adjustment covers a projected $21.79 million funding shortfall in the UCR program to meet required state allocations.

The fee increase applies to motor carriers, private motor carriers of property, brokers, freight forwarders, and leasing companies.

The fee increase was recommended a year ago by the UCR board.
