The record-setting rise of the price of diesel continues.
AAA today reports the national average price is $6.39 per gallon, up from $6.31 Wednesday, and up from $5.97 a week ago.
The outlook for relief at the pump does not look good.
Goldman Sachs, the New York-based financial institution and investment bank, said refinery capacity is sagging because of the wars in the Middle East and between Ukraine and Russia. The bank's commodity experts are forecasting supply tightness could continue into next year.
A blip in the supply of fuel occurred last weekend when ExxonMobil's refinery in Joliet, Illinois was knocked offline Sunday by a power outage. The outage occurred at about 3:30 p.m. and last until about 7 p.m., causing the plant to shut down completely.
ExxonMobil said the refinery normally produces roughly 11 million gallons of gasoline and diesel daily.
