South Korea’s Hyundai eyes U.S. truck market

The South Korean-based Hyundai Motor Co. announced this week it is investing $1.8 billion in the next five years into commercial vehicle development, which could include bringing a heavy-duty truck to the U.S. market.

Truckers News’ sister site Successful Dealer’s Jason Cannon has a full write-up on Hyundai’s announcement, in which he notes the company says it wants to introduce “premium models in North America and Europe.”

What “premium” means is up for interpretation, Cannon writes, but Hyundai could find a niche in the U.S. truck market with a lower-tech, less expensive truck than what U.S. manufacturers offer now.
