ChampTruck racing under way in New Jersey

The first-ever Meritor ChampTruck World Series race is taking place this weekend at the New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville, N.J., where 10 Class 8 truck racers will square off in 100-mph road course action in four heats and one main event.

Friday was an all-day practice day, says ChampTruck Director John Condren.

The Team Optima Batteries truck, the No. 11 truck driven by veteran truck racer and stunt driver Mike Ryan, had the fastest lap of the day.

One more practice session was held today, followed by qualifying and two heat races. Sunday will feature two more heats and the Podium Race, Condren says, which is the weekend’s main event.

The races are open to the public, and entry costs just $20 per person. Children under 15 get in free.
