It was some 46 years ago that the movie-going public first encountered the initial film in what was to become a major Hollywood industry: Planet of the Apes. Since 1968, there have been seven more films (and yet another is planned), two TV series, books, comics, toys and video games. The latest, due out on Blu-ray and DVD Tuesday, Dec. 2 is Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which was released last summer. This latest confrontation between man and primates plays out in and near San Francisco after a flu-like pandemic has wiped out most people. Some apes and humans get along; others don’t. And, an epic battle ensues. This sequel to 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes stars Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Toby Kebbell, and Kodi Smit-McPhee.
