Music: New CD from Love & Theft arrives

Stephen Barker Liles and Eric Gunderson — better known as Love & Theft — have a new CD, and it is getting the same sort of positive reception the country duo’s earliest work did. (Hear the title track.) But, this latest effort, which landed this week, has a different feel from the upbeat harmonies that made their single Angel Eyes a “bro country” smash. Whiskey On My Breath comes after some earnest efforts that missed the mark, at least on the charts. The pair released this latest CD on their own, after begin dropped by mega-label Sony. It is, by comparison, sparse but focuses on their guitar work and their voices, the stuff that got them started so well. Oddly, it contains several drinking/drunk themed songs, including, Let’s Get Drunk and Make Friends.
