Con-way Freight Wall of Fame honors million mile-plus truck drivers

Part of Con-way Freight’s new Wall of Fame

A new Wall of Fame at Con-way Freight’s headquarters in Ann Arbor, Mich. recognizes 2,000 men and women who have driven a total of 2.25 billion accident-free miles for the company.

The wall includes honorees — dating as far back as 1994 — who have achieved 1, 2 or 3 million accident- and injury-free miles during their careers with the company. Con-way Freight will update the wall annually as new drivers reach safety milestones.

“Our drivers are the heart and soul of this company,” said Tom Clark, senior vice president of operations at Con-way Freight. “This wall is a testament to the remarkable accomplishment represented by a million or more safe driving miles, and to the dedication to safety these professional men and women bring to work every day.”

The wall includes five glass panels acknowledging the 1,722 drivers who have reached 1 million accident-free miles, as well as individual glass plates for each of the 257 drivers who have reached 2 million accident-free miles. The 3 million mile safe-driver plaques feature a picture of the driver as well as a brief bio. Currently, the wall recognizes six 3 million mile safe drivers.

“It means a lot to work for a company that values safe driving and working as greatly as Con-way Freight does,” said James “Jackpot” Sutfin, Con-way Freight’s first 3 million mile safe driver, who is based out of the company’s Las Vegas, Nevada, service center. “None of us come to work each day thinking about awards or recognition. But to know my name and picture are up there in a special place at our headquarters, recognized among the best and safest professionals in our company, makes me proud. I hope to get out there soon and see it in person.”

Since Sutfin reached 3 million miles in February 2013, seven other Con-way Freight drivers have also reached that milestone. The most recent will be honored with their own plaques during the next annual update.

Con-way Freight has a fleet of 8,750 tractors and 26,000 freight trailers across 300 service centers throughout North America, and is a subsidiary of Con-way Inc.
