7 Christmas gifts for the trucker in your life

Christmas is a season of giving, but picking out the perfect gift can be tricky.

For truck drivers who spend weeks at a time on the road, it can be hard to pick out a great gift for them. When picking out something for a trucker, it’s a good rule of thumb to look for something portable and practical. We picked out seven Christmas gifts for the truck driver in your life.

1. Streaming Service Subscription

Truck drivers need entertainment that’s as on-the-go as they are. A subscription to streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime or HBO Now will give them access to movies and television shows anywhere on their phone, tablet or laptop. Subscription prices vary in the $7.99-$11.99 per month range, depending on if you purchase additional services or choose ad-free options for ad-based services. If the trucker you’re shopping for is more into music, then consider a subscription to a music streaming service such as Spotify or Pandora.

2. Trucking Merchandise

Get your driver the gear they need to show their trucking pride. Many truck makers have their own merchandise stores for your to peruse. PeterbiltKenworthFreightliner, MackVolvo and International all have their own merchandise stories, some with their own gift sections.

3. Gift Cards

Give your trucker a gift card for the truck stops or stores they frequent while on the road. If you aren’t sure where they prefer to stop, you can get them a general Visa gift card, which they can use anywhere that accepts Visa. You can also purchase gift cards to the various app stores – Apple App Store, Google Play Store, etc. – so they can purchase apps for their devices.

4. Truck-Friendly Appliances

Cooking on the road is more complex than cooking in a traditional kitchen. Truck-friendly appliances can help your trucker cook more and stay healthy. Personal blenders and slow cookers come in a variety of sizes and prices, so you’re sure to find one that satisfies your wallet and your truckers needs. You can also gift them a cooler/fridge or portable stove, such as the RoadPro 12-volt portable stove.

5. Technology

Your trucker may not have room for a 50″ television in their cab, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t technology gifts they may enjoy. An e-reader or tablet will give them access to apps, streaming and e-reading without taking up a lot of space. If they’re resolving to pay more attention to their health better in the new year, then a heart rate monitor such as a FitBit or Jawbone can help them get started.

6. Truck Cab Essentials

Truckers could always use a good flashlight, CD organizer, travel mug, gloves, and more truck cab essentials to make life on the road easier. Find out what essentials they may be missing or they have but need replaced, and gift them that. A good pair of gloves may not seem like a glamorous gift to you, but for the trucker hauling in winter weather, they could be the difference between staying warm or getting frostbitten.

7. Portable Fitness Equipment

Truckers often don’t have access to a gym while on the road, and a lot of fitness equipment is too bulky and takes up too much valuable cab space. Gifting your trucker items such as a jumprope, bodyweight workout DVD, small dumbbell set, resistance bands or workout mat can give them the fitness jump start they want without taking up a lot of extra cab space.
