There's more pain at the pump for truckers as diesel prices hit a new record high.
AAA reports that the average price for diesel today reached $5.85 per gallon, the highest since June of 2022, when the price was $5.82.
Today's price is up $2.14 from the average price a year ago, according to AAA.
Most analysts blame the price hike on continued U.S.-Iran hostilities and the Russia-Ukraine war.
The record diesel prices comes at thew same time motorists will be paying record high gasoline prices during the Labor Day weekend. The cost of a regular gallon of gasoline is at a record high $4.14 for this time of year, according to AAA. That’s above the previous Labor Day record of $3.82, set on Sept. 3, 2012.
The high fuel prices come as oil is trading at $90.24 per barrel for West Texas Intermediate crude, and $95.32 for Brent crude.
Not ponly does the price of diesel cause problems for truckers, but also for the broader economy.
“Diesel sort of runs the U.S. economy,” Dean Croke, principal analyst at DAT Freight & Analytics, told Politico, “and I think that’s the bigger problem.”
