Landstar Health Pavilion offers cooking demos, health talks

Driver health is set to be a big topic at the Great American Trucking Show, which will once again feature the Landstar Health & Wellness Pavilion.

The health pavilion schedule includes talks from certified nutritionists, health authors and health bloggers. Tom Kyrk, a driver/blogger with RoadTestingLiving.com, will provide a cooking demonstration each day at GATS.

Landstar will offer attendees the chance to compete in the Landstar Fitness Challenge with cash prizes available.

Thursday, Aug. 25

1-1:30 p.m.: Gut Instinct – Do You Have the Guts?: Carolyn O’Byrne, the author of “Gut Instinct,” will speak on the health concepts found in her book.

1:45-2:15 p.m.: Landstar Fitness Challenge.

2:45-3:15 p.m.: Managing Diabetes: John Reed, an owner-operator and certified nutritionist, will be on hand to discuss ways drivers can manage diabetes.

3:30-4 p.m.: Cooking Demo: Tom Kyrk, a blogger with RoadTestedLiving.com, will present a cooking demonstration.

Friday, Aug. 26

11-11:30 a.m.: Cooking Demo with Tom Kyrk.

11:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.: Driver Health and the Transportation Industry – Regulations, Risks and Rewards: Ben Hoffman, a medical doctor and prior chairperson of the U.S. DOT FMCSA Medical Review Board, will speak on current industry topics regarding driver health.

1-1:30 p.m.: Landstar Fitness Challenge.

1:45-3 p.m.: The Ketogenic Lifestyle On the Road: Kevin Rutherford, a small fleet owner and former owner-operator, will discuss a ketogenic diet and how it works on the road.

3:15-3:45 p.m.: Fitness Roundtable: Linda and Robert Caffee, Tex Crowley and Wendy Parker will lead a roundtable discussion on fitness.

Saturday, Aug. 27

11-11:30 a.m.: Landstar Fitness Challenge.

11:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.: Hope at the End of Your Rope: Ron Morton, a driver health advocate and blogger, will discuss weight loss options for drivers.

1-1:30 p.m.: Gut Instinct – Do You Have the Guts?

1:45-2:15 p.m.: Losing Your Job Because of Food Addiction: John Reed will discuss food addiction among truckers.
