A trucker was arrested last weekend when customs agents found 906 pounds of methamphetamine valued at almost $13 million stashed in a shipment of strawberries.
Customs and Border Protection officers at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge cargo facility in Texas Saturday, Feb. 16, stopped a tractor-trailer shipment of frozen strawberries arriving from Mexico. Further inspection, including the use of a drug-sniffing dogs, discovered the 350 packets of drugs worth $12.7 million, according to a statement from the CBP.
The driver, a 42-year-old male Mexican citizen, was arrested and turned over to Homeland Security agents for further investigation. CBP did not identify the driver.
